A glorious Summers day at Betchworth Park greeted the 30 golfers for this event which doubles as the normal handicap stableford competition and the ASCA Qualifier (scratch stableford) - both over 36 holes. The course was in superb condition - both general presentation and greens, with most of our regulars commenting it was the best they had played the course.
Despite the very good golfing conditions the scoring was on the low side - many struggling with the fast, firm greens. In the morning Nathan Miles won the prize for the best score in the handicap competition, in the afternoon this went to Adrian Meredith. Nearest the pins went to Alfie Clark & Sean Hanson in the morning and Nigel Weldon & Malcolm Coleman in the afternoon.
Over 36 holes in the handicap competition Adrian Meredith won the Weir Trophy with 74 pts, and further prizes were won by John Jones (71 pts) in 2nd place and Gavin Bamberger (69 pts) in 3rd position.
In the ASCA Qualifer competition the winner of the Scratch Trophy was Nigel Finch (52 pts) who won by some distance from the rest of our lowest handicap golfers. Nathan Miles, Dave Skiggs and Stan Knollman filled the next 3 positions to get the ASCA invites to the 2010 competition. Simon Over is reserve with the remaining 2 places to be decided at the season end. Next years ASCA Tournament is to be hosted by Finn Air in Helsinki, July 2010.
