David Simms receives the Lamplugh Trophy from Malcolm Coleman (V Capt) |
Report
After many years the BA Golf section returned to Leatherhead GC to play 36 holes of golf, a 3 ball team game in the morning with the individual stableford competition in the afternoon. Yet again the Golf Section defied the weather forecast and the heavy rain did not materialise, however there was a chilly start to day with a very stiff wind which blew all day. The course was in lovely condition with true, slick greens. The 3 ball morning team competition used the Dubai scoring method which has the best stableford score taken from the first 6 holes, then best two added for holes 7 to 12 followed by all 3 scores counting on the last 6 holes. The winning team of Malcolm Coleman, Bruce Miles and David Simms returned a combined score of 76 points, just beating the team of David Burton, Findlay McClymont and Mike Broad who came in with 75 points.

The afternoon singles was a stern test with the strong wind and this was certainly reflected in the stableford scores, resulting in a competition scratch for the day of 32 points (some 4 below par). The winner of the Lamplugh Trophy, David Simms, returned an excellent score of 39 points - 4 clear of the field, with Sean Hanson in second place on 35 points. Gavin Bamberger edged out David Burton with a better back 9 for 3rd place on 33 points. |
