Report

BA Captain, Richard Collard chose Northwood for this years Captain's Day and what a day it was. The morning competition was an eighteen hole individual stableford event for the Bewshea Trophy. The afternoon was a Texas Scramble event over 18 holes which is not a format the golf section has played in recent memory. However the day was overshadowed by not just one but two holes in one on different holes during the morning round, one is rare but two on the same day was quite exceptional. These feats went to Sup Sidhu who holed a 7 iron on the 3rd hole and Nathan Miles with a 3 iron at the 13th hole.

The morning competition was quite a tight affair with 18 of the 33 golfers scoring 30 or more points. Three golfers 'played to their handicap' with 36 points and contested 2nd to 4th place. The winner, Russell Scott, just pipped the others by one point with 37 to take the Bewshea Trophy. Russell by his own admission had a shocker at Betchworth, 'gave up the game' and made a late decision to play in this event - the old adage of there's always next time was never better exemplified. Nathan Miles who had a very good alround day was 2nd, with Mike Broad in 3rd place.

The afternoon team competition was a Texas Scramble competition with the position of the best ball in the team of 3 taken after each set of shots. Then the best score on the hole is taken and totalled over the eighteen holes, less an overall team handicap. By common consent this proved to be a popular format with plenty of discussion on which ball was best placed, with the added factor that each player had to have a minimum of 5 tee shots taken. This resulted in a close competition with the team of Nigel Weldon, Les Sibley and Mike Robinson the winners by one point.

Other prizes went to Bernie Forbes, Sean Hanson, Nathan Miles and Sup Sidhu for nearest the pins, with John Burns and John Jones receiving Medals for Laleham and Stockley respectively.
