Report
A fine day greeted the 40 BA golfers for our annual Pairs Competition at Reading GC with the weather turning very windy by the end of the day. The trophy is played for over 36 holes but also there are prizes for the best morning and afternoon pairs. As we have come to expect the Reading course was in very good condition with the greens just about the best we encounter from all our varied venues.
The event is a better ball competition off full handicap with the best stableford score of the pair for each hole taken. Unusually the morning winners, Dave Silk & Steve Mellet (45 points) and the afternoon winners, Sean Hanson & Alan Snow (45 points) were not the best pair overall. In a keenly fought contest the 2007 winners, Dave Skiggs & Steve Hollingsworth, narrowly regained the Pairs Trophy with a combined score of 86 points. They were one point ahead of 3 other teams Dave Burton & les Sibley, John Jones & Clive Jones and Sean Hanson & Alan Snow. Keith Breslin and Ian Raines who have just joined the golf section won the nearest the pins at 11th hole in the morning and 8th hole in the afternoon respectively. Other nearest the pin winners were 6th - AM Findlay McClymont and Alfie Clark on the 15th hole - PM.
